Engaging and interactive format for transport AGM
Talent Lab revamped a listed transport company's AGM format, paving the way for ongoing growth and increased shareholder value.
Our client
Having worked with this public transport PLC previously on a different part of its brand, communications, and marketing strategy, Talent Lab produced an innovative conference that delivered more than just words.
The challenge
Public transport companies face the challenge of turning a profit in an environment where safety is crucial, margins are narrow, and operational procedures are intricate. Delivering growth that encourages retail and corporate investors on the FTSE, relies on management owning the strategy that delivers on analysts forecasts.
How we helped
We were asked to find a way to bring together senior managers from across the company – some international – to find ways to address their own collective and individual issues that could lead to a unified near and medium term strategy. The model we created was truly ground-breaking for the sector. It is confidential, but we can share some highlights.
Key programme steps
Development of a two-day conference with participation of c.100 MDs and FDs drawn from across all UK and international business units.
Day 1:
- Examination of two critical elements to the company’s business success and their interdependencies.
- Engaged external experts to deliver profound insights on key elements, risks, opportunities, and latest thinking in strategic leadership.
- Facilitated group breakout sessions aimed at concentrating on particular tasks and addressing specific questions.
Day 2:
- Thorough examination and analysis of the discoveries made during group sessions.
- Consensus building and refinement of the action plan.
- Agreement of action plan.
Outcomes
Company-wide challenges were evident, yet crucially, everyone embraced the approach that sidelined egos and self-interest for two days. With a deadline and a toolkit in hand, the action plan energised the conference participants to adopt a collective mindset. Ideas were exchanged, heard, and deliberated upon in a spirit of togetherness and exploration.
As a public company, we cannot share specific details of the conference themes or outcomes. However, we can confirm that over the three years following the implementation of the action plan, they consistently achieved growth, as evidenced by a strong increase in their share price.
